Pineapple juice and reducing swelling after a nose job

Jun 21, 2022

Many patients ask about the effects of pineapple juice and post-operative swelling when they have a cosmetic nose job. Looking at the recent scientific literature there are no studies that have investigated a link between post-operative swelling and the use of pineapple juice. Therefore, it is difficult to say whether pineapple juice has any beneficial effect or not.

Bromelain, an extract from the stem of pineapple plants has been shown to have some beneficial effect on tendon healing. However this chemical has not been shown to be present in pineapple juice.

In conclusion it is perfectly safe to consume pineapple juice in the hope that it reduces post-operative swelling, although there is no scientific evidence that this is possible.
