Is The Nose Healed 6 Months After Rhinoplasty
A rhinoplasty or nose job is best described as a journey that takes anywhere from 18 months to 2 years. This is because during this time the nose is undergoing changes. The major change that is occurring is swelling or oedema is resolving.
During surgery, the soft tissue covering of the nose is traumatised. Although this is controlled surgical trauma it is nevertheless trauma. This leads to inflammation and swelling. The swelling gradually resolves as the tissues heal and the lymphatic channels get re-established.
By 6 months approximately 80% of the swelling has resolved. However, this is it not the same in every patient. Skin thickness effects post operative swelling. Thick skinned patients tend to swell more and the swelling lasts longer.
How Long Does It Take For Your Nose To Go Back To Mormal After Surgery?
This is different in every patient. As a general rule of thumb its takes 18 months to 2 years for everything to completely settle. This can be sooner in some patients.
Most patients are feeling themselves by about 2 weeks after the operation. However, there is still a considerable amount of swelling. By 6 weeks 70% of the swelling has resolved. However, that final 30% can takes months and months.
Nasal congestion and blockage is also commonly experienced by patients. Again, this is because the lining of the nose becomes swollen which means that there is greater resistance to airflow. Patients experience this as difficult breathing through their nose. This sensation takes 6 to 9 months to improved.
